The Nitty Gritty:
If you haven't learned by now, many of these topical cellulite products have a weird, citrus, cleaner-kind-of scent. I thought that, for sure, InstaNaturals' would be the exception, as all of the InstaNatural products I have used smell amazing. Unfortunately, that would be almost all of them now, as this product smells only slightly better than the other cellulite creams I have used. Still citrus-like, still cleaner-ish.
I do like the thickness of this product, which is creamy, but not too heavy, like other ones I have tried. It contains cocoa and shea butter and various oils that help to seriously hydrate my skin.
After using this product, again.. sadly, the slightest difference in my cellulite.. which is saying something, since that's more than I've gotten out of the other cellulite products I have tried. Plus, it leaves my skin super soft and moisturized. So, it's kind-of a two-in-one treatment. I will continue to use it primarily as a moisturizer. If I do notice a significant difference in my cellulite, ya better bet that I'll update immediately.

Here's what I think.. okay, this product isn't creamy. I was totally expecting it to be, since, you know, that's the way they describe it? I was expecting a non-foaming, creamy, lotion cleanser, which I personally have a hard time with (I love my lather). But, it's not creamy at all- rather, it has a thick, gel texture. One pump dispenses not-so-much cleanser. I usually have to use 2-3 pumps, depending on how oily my face is (the skin won't lather as well if its oily). However, it really does lather pretty well and 2-3 pumps will suffice with my skin being the oiliest ever- and three pumps isn't a lot of product at all.
It feels good on my skin, and the ingredients are awesome- pretty potent, with very few fillers. It does have some oil in it- rosehip oil, which is good for the skin. I like using this product at night. It leaves my face feeling fresh and clean, but not drying. Win.

More Topical Cellulite Treatments? A Review of Spalon Tech's Cellulite Cream

Spalon tech's founder is a licensed esthetician and nail tech who decided it was time to create her own cellulite treatment product. I have to say that, after seeing another cellulite treatment was headed my way, I wasn't too, too excited. Being that I do have a problem with cellulite, I would love to get rid of it! However, as of yet, most of the products I've used are smelly, sticky, thick, and/or just plain don't work. Sad, I know.
Spalon Tech's treatment includes some pretty cool ingredients, as have the other treatments I have tried. Most notably, these ingredients include a mixture of hydrating ingredients(coconut oil, palm oil, aloe) and "stimulating" ingredients (gotu kola, citrus extracts, peppermint, caffeine). This product, in particular, actually has garcinia cambogia in it, which is interesting, as garcinia is a pretty new ingredient, even in the diet industry. I had never heard of using it to help cellulite. Maybe this stuff really would work!

Unlike other cellullite treatments I have tried, which typically come in a pot or airless pump container, this one actually comes in a large pump bottle. It is a pretty good size, too- 12 oz. Bigger than the others.
The directions say to apply the cream twice daily in circular and upward strokes, paying special attention to cellulite-prone areas (buttocks, thighs). It also suggests to drink 8 oz of water after applying- another key point that makes this product stand out from the rest. Do we have hope!? By the way, the reason for the water, I'm guessing, is because this product supposedly has a detoxifying effect on the body, pulling stuff out- so you wanna drink more water to rehydrate and get things moving along.

I followed the directions- I swear. I was so excited to try this product! I opened the pump. And pumped. And pumped. Nothing ever came out. To this day, a few weeks later, every time I use this stuff I need to unscrew the entire top and bang it on the palm of my hand until the cream comes out- which is super thick, by the way. Which is probably why the pump didn't work in the first place- because the cream was too thick for it. ::sigh. Don't people test these things beforehand??
The smell... ugh, was just like the others! That weird, citrus, sort-of-like-cleaner-kind-of smell. Yuck. But, I could bear it, if it was going to fix my cellulite.
Unfortunately, it hasn't. My cellulite looks exactly the same as it did before I started using this product. Such a bummer.

I had never heard of using it to help cellulite. Maybe this stuff really would work!

Unlike other cellullite treatments I have tried, which typically come in a pot or airless pump container, this one actually comes in a large pump bottle. It is a pretty good size, too- 12 oz. Bigger than the others.
The directions say to apply the cream twice daily in circular and upward strokes, paying special attention to cellulite-prone areas (buttocks, thighs). It also suggests to drink 8 oz of water after applying- another key point that makes this product stand out from the rest. Do we have hope!? By the way, the reason for the water, I'm guessing, is because this product supposedly has a detoxifying effect on the body, pulling stuff out- so you wanna drink more water to rehydrate and get things moving along.
The Nitty Gritty:
I followed the directions- I swear. I was so excited to try this product! I opened the pump. And pumped. And pumped. Nothing ever came out. To this day, a few weeks later, every time I use this stuff I need to unscrew the entire top and bang it on the palm of my hand until the cream comes out- which is super thick, by the way. Which is probably why the pump didn't work in the first place- because the cream was too thick for it. ::sigh. Don't people test these things beforehand??
The smell... ugh, was just like the others! That weird, citrus, sort-of-like-cleaner-kind-of smell. Yuck. But, I could bear it, if it was going to fix my cellulite.
Unfortunately, it hasn't. My cellulite looks exactly the same as it did before I started using this product. Such a bummer.
Maybe you'd have better luck? Get this 12 oz unworkable pump bottle for $29.77 on amazon. They say they have a 100% money back guarantee, so I guess its kind-of worth it?

Introducing Yalmeh's Fondation Brush- A Pretty Badass Brush
I've reviewed a few products by Yalmeh so far, and have loved every single one of them. They seem to have a pretty great fan club too, as I've read loads of Yalmeh reviews from happy customers that praise their skincare products and makeup brushes. So, of course I was all about reviewing their new foundation brush.
First, I must be honest. I am a skincare junkie, which doesn't necessarily mean that I am a makeup junkie. Do I like makeup? Of course I do, and I own loads of it. However, the truth is that I used to be way more into it. I have always been told that my own makeup looks good, but, now that I'm 31 (yikes!), I'm not going to get trashed at dive bars and frolic around at punk rock shows anymore...well...not as often, anyway. I'm quite content taking a bubble bath with a glass of wine and candles instead. With that being said, I don't really need to go crazy with makeup anymore. Sure, I can still experiment and makeup doesn't always have to be bold and wild.. but, when you're going to school full time and working part time in a psychiatric hospital, you don't have quite as much time to perfect the smokey eye, know what I mean? Sad but true.
Still, that's not to say that I don't binge on makeup purchases when I can, and I'm just as picky as the rest of them. When it comes to makeup brushes, a good makeup brush can make all the difference in your makeup application. When it comes to foundation application, I personally have always preferred using my own fingers over tools and sponges. I found that most brushes left lines on my face and didn't get into the creases well. But this all changed when I received my #Yalmeh brush.
First, lets take a look at the brush- it is made of synthetic fibers, which not only means that it is cruelty free and vegan friendly, but I personally have always preferred synthetic fibers, as they are more gentle on the face. I mean, they are so much more soft. Plus, that makes it less prone to allergic reaction.
For real, the shape and texture is what makes this product and what makes this brush my absolute favorite. Check out the pic:

It's the shape. The shape is goddamn awesomeeeee. I love the way it tapers off at the end- it's frigging PERFECT to get into the creases around the nose and the hairline without risking painting your hair with foundation too. Also, the hundreds of different bristle lengths allows you to control the heaviness of the foundation in different areas.
All in all, the brush is the perfect size too- not huge and gawky, like some brushes are. Instead, this would be great for traveling. Easy to wash too, and I like that the bristles are attached to a metal portion, rather than wood, which could start to rot after being washed repeatedly.
Honestly, this brush changed the way I apply foundation forever. Though I mostly use it to apply my tinted moisturizer and liquid foundations, this is also supposed to work great for loose powder. In addition, this brush could actually work great as a universal product- due to the tapered ends and control this product lets you have, it could also work great as an eyeshadow brush, even highlighter and concealer!

Another (Delicious) Eye Cream: A Review of Poppy Austin's Revitalizing Eye Cream
If there's one thing to say about the skincare line, #PoppyAustin, it's that they have created the greatest name on the entire planet. POPPY AUSTIN! It's so catchy and just kinda rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? So in love with it!
As soon as they agreed to send me their eye cream for review, I was super stoked and had high expectations. Plus, they have so many other cool products on their page! Fig oil! Rhassoul clay! Oh my! Stoked, I was, and satisfied, I am.
First, let's talk a bit about the company that created the best name on the planet. I'm loving their website, as its not only aesthetically pleasing and professional, but they have oodles of info about their company and what they stand for- something I truly appreciate. I love to see what these companies stand for!
Poppy's story and values are pretty long- you can view the whole thing here. However, to sum it all up, we'll just list the Poppy Austin philosophy: "To prevent the signs of aging by using only the finest, most ethically sourced cosmetics, produced in exact accordance with Poppy’s Code." So, does the eye cream live up to the expectations of this badass company name?
I think so! The product doesn't have much of a scent and its very lightweight. It absorbs rather quickly, which is really nice for any skincare stuff, but especially for eye creams- means I don't have to wait as long to apply my makeup! Also, it comes in a white, airless pump container, which, as I've drilled into your brains again and again, prevents product contamination and oxygenation.
After applying this eye cream to my skin, the area around my eyes looked bright and well moisturized. In addition, my skin tone appeared to be more even. Yay!
I'm really into this eye cream and I'm really into this Poppy Austin company. I soooo hope that they need more product opinions in the future, because.. fig oil, what!?!? I've never seen such a thing! Plus, I've been wanting to try rhassoul clay for quite a while.

Adeline skincare sent me two different products to review: Another lovely eye serum (you can never have too many eye products, I've decided), as well as their anti-aging moisturizer. While I can't really find anything about the company (trust me, I can google like the best of them), I did dig up some info on both of the products, which I'll put below.
First, lets focus on the anti-aging moisturizer cream, which you can purchase for $35.25 on amazon.

As for the full ingredients list, I can't find it. And you KNOW how much that drives me insane!!! Even on their amazon page, they just say "all natural ingredients that are not tested on animals and cruelty free." I mean, what the eff, guys!? You know what else is natural? Alcohol. Rubbing alcohol. Etc. etc. Tons of crap. Give us our ingredients!!
This product seems to be super similar to another anti-aging moisturizer that I reviewed not too long ago, by a company called Luxurience. They both contain green tea and peppermint- again, the peppermint I am leery about, as it can be potentially irritating. Even the texture is the same, as it is pretty lightweight, but definitely feels nice and smooth on the skin. This moisturizer, however, absorbs quicker than the other one I reviewed. In fact, this absorbs really quickly, which I love.
Overall, this product is pretty good, though the peppermint still makes me nervous. After applying it, my skin feels super smooth and does actually have a bit of a glow, though this doesn't last all day. I just wish they listed their full ingredients list online. I mean, UGH.
Adeline Organic Eye Serum can also be found on amazon for $35.25.
It must be said that eye serums / gels can be hit or miss with me. If I'm using them, I always add an eye cream on top of it, because I feel like the serum isn't doing its job- please know that this is totally just a psychological thing for me. Serums are actually more potent than creams, so technically, they should be doing more "work." However, I'm just super used to that feeling of having cream around the eyes. Also, I've used a number of different eye gels that tend to flake up after applying creams and that's soooo annoying. On the other hand, I certainly have used some lovely serum / gels that instantly tighten and brighten around my eyes. So, what I'm saying is that they're not all bad.

Adeline claims that this product will protect, moisturize, reduce dark circles, eliminate brown spots, reduce inflammation, and improve clarity and tone of the eyes. Those are a lot of claims; however, they're not impossible to achieve.
The directions above say to apply the product at night; however, the bottle just says to apply once daily- it doesn't state whether this should be day or night. While it's totally fine to apply eye serums twice daily, there could be a reason why one wants it to be at night only- example, if there is retinol or any agents in the product that are photosensitive- meaning, prone to sun reaction. It doesn't look like this product contains anything like that, though. Another reason why one might encourage to put a product on at night only is because the body- and therefore, the skin- can absorb more product when the body is at rest and, essentially, put it to work. Eye products that instruct to be applied at night are likely (and definitely should be) stronger and more concentrated than traditional day creams. Regardless... I'd encourage Adeline to clarify this.
The serum doesn't contain any scent, is clear, and very thin- which isn't a bad thing, because that means you can use less product. It's almost sticky, and still feels that way after it has dried on my face.. but not in an awful way. The stickiness is totally bearable, believe it or not.
I haven't used this product long enough to say whether its achieved every one of the results they claim above. However, my eyes do feel a bit tighter around the area that I applied the product. I'm going to continue to use it and see if my results get better.

Overall, I'm not terribly disappointed in these two products by Adeline. Though the company could clarify a few things and certainly could put up an ingredients list.. oh yeah, and an actual website would be nice. I also think that they should bring down the price of these products- I mean, $35 for a regular sized container of eye serum or moisturizer from a company one has never heard of and doesn't even have a website.. is rather expensive. Aside from that, I'm excited to see what else this company has to offer! I'd totally be down to try more products.

This product seems to be super similar to another anti-aging moisturizer that I reviewed not too long ago, by a company called Luxurience. They both contain green tea and peppermint- again, the peppermint I am leery about, as it can be potentially irritating. Even the texture is the same, as it is pretty lightweight, but definitely feels nice and smooth on the skin. This moisturizer, however, absorbs quicker than the other one I reviewed. In fact, this absorbs really quickly, which I love.
Overall, this product is pretty good, though the peppermint still makes me nervous. After applying it, my skin feels super smooth and does actually have a bit of a glow, though this doesn't last all day. I just wish they listed their full ingredients list online. I mean, UGH.
Adeline Organic Eye Serum can also be found on amazon for $35.25.
It must be said that eye serums / gels can be hit or miss with me. If I'm using them, I always add an eye cream on top of it, because I feel like the serum isn't doing its job- please know that this is totally just a psychological thing for me. Serums are actually more potent than creams, so technically, they should be doing more "work." However, I'm just super used to that feeling of having cream around the eyes. Also, I've used a number of different eye gels that tend to flake up after applying creams and that's soooo annoying. On the other hand, I certainly have used some lovely serum / gels that instantly tighten and brighten around my eyes. So, what I'm saying is that they're not all bad.

Adeline claims that this product will protect, moisturize, reduce dark circles, eliminate brown spots, reduce inflammation, and improve clarity and tone of the eyes. Those are a lot of claims; however, they're not impossible to achieve.
The directions above say to apply the product at night; however, the bottle just says to apply once daily- it doesn't state whether this should be day or night. While it's totally fine to apply eye serums twice daily, there could be a reason why one wants it to be at night only- example, if there is retinol or any agents in the product that are photosensitive- meaning, prone to sun reaction. It doesn't look like this product contains anything like that, though. Another reason why one might encourage to put a product on at night only is because the body- and therefore, the skin- can absorb more product when the body is at rest and, essentially, put it to work. Eye products that instruct to be applied at night are likely (and definitely should be) stronger and more concentrated than traditional day creams. Regardless... I'd encourage Adeline to clarify this.
The serum doesn't contain any scent, is clear, and very thin- which isn't a bad thing, because that means you can use less product. It's almost sticky, and still feels that way after it has dried on my face.. but not in an awful way. The stickiness is totally bearable, believe it or not.
I haven't used this product long enough to say whether its achieved every one of the results they claim above. However, my eyes do feel a bit tighter around the area that I applied the product. I'm going to continue to use it and see if my results get better.

Overall, I'm not terribly disappointed in these two products by Adeline. Though the company could clarify a few things and certainly could put up an ingredients list.. oh yeah, and an actual website would be nice. I also think that they should bring down the price of these products- I mean, $35 for a regular sized container of eye serum or moisturizer from a company one has never heard of and doesn't even have a website.. is rather expensive. Aside from that, I'm excited to see what else this company has to offer! I'd totally be down to try more products.

Finally, Some Seaweed Powder for my Skin!! A Review of InstaNatural's 100% Natural Seaweed Powder
Ah, seaweed powder. I haven't thrown legit smelly seaweed / algae stuff on my skin since good ol esthetics school at Christine Valmy. Lemme tell ya, it does NOT smell good. But it is so friggin good for you.
Here's the deal:
Seaweed is an anti-inflammatory, meaning that it (surprise!) helps decrease inflammation in the skin. This means more than what you think. Just because your face isn't a blotchy red mess doesn't mean that your face isn't inflamed. Have a fresh acne scar? Does it look uber pink, even red? Yes? That's inflammation.
Seaweed is also a lovely detoxifier, pulling all of the gross sh** outta your skin. It's nice to use a detoxifying facial mask every once in a while (like, week or two) because your face, being that it is constantly exposed to the environment, is inevitably going to get built up with crap. Duh.

Okay, so I knew that this was going to smell bad. So, I was a little reluctant to use the stuff. Also, since its a powder and I have experience making messes with clay powder masks and the like, I knew that this was going to be a huge mess. So, I got prepared with a plastic bowl and a facial spatula (to help mix and apply). I knew I was going to get dirty.
I decided to use this as a mask first because, well... you need space. And lots of plastic. To do an actual body wrap. So, during a glorious bath soak, I decided to get down with the face mask. InstaNatural put some fun little recipes on the container, which included mixing the powder with some aloe vera and raw honey. Luckily, I had both of these in the house (even though my cats have a vendetta against my aloe plant and I have NO IDEA how it survived after the cats knocked the huge thing on the bedroom floor).
I mixed and applied.. and it smelled awful, of course (to avoid the scent, keep reading!)
But, believe it or not? I loved the smell, more than when I was in esthetics school. Is it because it smelled different? No, not at all.. but, since esthetics school, this girl has spent a few months on a magical Mexican island uninhibited (mostly) by tourists and filled with plenty of seaweed. It smelled just like my beautiful adventures of this island. I became reminiscent as I applied the seaweed all over my skin.. ahhh, the Caribbean.
**A side note about the smell, for real though: No, it isn't pleasant. In fact, that's probably the #1 reason why people avoid using seaweed masks. However, this is where essential oils become your best friend. If you don't own any, buy some, like, now. Any scent will do, but lavender is always good, as it is a mild anti-bacterial and very soothing as well. Citruses, like orange, are more astringent and better for acneic skin, but I would stick with orange, as any others (lime, grapefruit, lemon) can be too acidic and irritate the skin**
Still, the mask was clumpy as hell. I mixed and mashed the crap out of this thing, and it was still clumpy. It was almost like the seaweed had a sponge-like effect, as all of these clumps weren't in it before. It's like the dried seaweed absorbed the water and sprang to life.
Clump clump clump.. I got used to it. After all, this is a natural product. To make it all perfect and smooth would mean processing it more and therefore means that it wouldn't work as well. I didn't want that. I wanted it to work well.
After leaving it on my skin for 10 minutes or so, I removed it with a sponge. I'd def recommend a sponge or a gentle facial spatula, especially because I really wouldn't want this stuff to go down the drain- the clumps and all. It took a while, but I did finally manage to get it all off.
So? What'd I think?!
I'm happy with this and I promise it's not only because it reminds me of tropic land. My face looked brighter and more smooth. As a detoxifier.. well, facts are facts, but its not like I rinsed it off and all of my blackheads were immediately gone.
I really dig this stuff. I'm also super excited to try it as a body wrap, since people seem to rave about it as a cellulite treatment.
The best thing about this? It comes in a huge container- 32 oz, to be exact. And it's cheap. Totally worth it. You can purchase InstaNaturals' seaweed mask on sale on amazon for $21.95. More Phytoceramides? Giving the Phytos a Second Chance
After my last review on a few different kinds of phytoceramides, I still wasn't ready to give up. Just because I didn't see insane life-transforming results from these capsules (aside from the fact that my hair seemed to be shooting out of my head like Rapunzel), doesn't mean that I should toss phytoceramides for ever. I mean.. maybe I just tried some "ehhh" type of brands?
So, when a few other brands (NutriRevolution and BioGanix) offered to send me a few bottle of their own version of phytoceramides in exchange for a review, I figured "what the heck?" After all, I've been trying to grow my hair anyway.
If you're not sure of what exactly phytoceramides are and how they work, I strongly suggest that you read my last review on them. However, if you're just looking for a super quick summary, phytoceramides are said to help prevent aging by plumping the skin by producing more of these ceramide things. Simply put, it's meant to reverse and prevent the signs of aging.
But, not even that- companies claim that consuming one phytoceramide capsule each day for 90 days will help achieve a "natural facelift" in your skin, by pumping and firming. Uhh.. okay. Not judging, but let's just be real here- a "natural facelift" doesn't exist. At least, not one that's that extreme. You can drink all the water in the world and get facials every single day.. nothing is going to achieve the same results as going under the knife and literally lifting skin up on the face.

I see absolutely no difference in my skin at all, including texture, firmness, tone, blemishes, etc.
As for my hair, it doesn't even seem to be growing that fast anymore. Maybe it was working at first, then it stopped. Maybe it was all just psychological. ::shrug. Either way, I'm disappointed... but then again, "facelift in a bottle?"
If it's too good to be true, it usually is.

Yet Another Hyaluronic Acid Review? A Review of Pure Body Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Serum
I seriously have an insaneeeeee number of different hyaluronic acid serums in my skincare cupboard. Yet, I just can't say no to trying a new one... like, ever. Because the benefits of hyaluronic acid are just that amazing. And, you've probably read my hyaluronic acid reviews before (if not, just click on the label, "hyaluronic acid").
So, this company Pure Body Naturals sent me a bottle of their hyaluronic acid serum. I was immediately drawn to it just by the label- which isn't even that fancy, but it's pink, so there.
I can't say too much about this company.. they appear to be new, or at least a pretty small company that doesn't have all that much information to offer just yet. They seem to be focused on overall wellness, rather than strictly skincare, featuring weight loss products, essential oils (which you will see a future review of), etc.

The product comes in a clear, glass container, unlike many other hyaluronic acids I have tried that either come in an airless pump or a dark glass container. I don't like that the container is clear glass because it makes it more vulnerable to oxygenation and spoiling before its expiration.
The texture is light, smooth, and gel-like, like every hyaluronic acid I have tried. It has very little scent.
I apply it to my skin when my skin is still damp, as one should do whenever applying a hyaluronic acid serum. This is because hyaluronic acid pulls moisture into the skin, aka water. If you put it on dry skin it can actually have the opposite effect, plus the serum tends to feel sticky and tacky.
Overall?
Overall this hyaluronic acid serum is okay. I have tried others that are better, plus I can't find a full ingredients list anywhere besides the photo, which I've posted below and have to strain my eyes to read the ingredients clearly. Also, the clear glass container makes me nervous that it will spoil early, plus I didn't really notice any results. Overall, I think this hyaluronic acid is just so-so and would probably try one by a different brand.

So, this company Pure Body Naturals sent me a bottle of their hyaluronic acid serum. I was immediately drawn to it just by the label- which isn't even that fancy, but it's pink, so there.
I can't say too much about this company.. they appear to be new, or at least a pretty small company that doesn't have all that much information to offer just yet. To me, these ingredients are just so-so. I was super nervous to try this product because it has peppermint extract in it, which can irritate the skin. The green tea extract is great, though it also is far down on the ingredients list, meaning that it contains very little (ingredients lists always go from most - least % in the product). The first ingredient is glycerin, which pulls moisture into the skin. Witch hazel extract is also pretty close to the top, which I have mixed feelings about.. while it does help tone the skin, it also can be a bit drying.. however, I'm not saying, right now, that just because it's in the product, it means that this moisturizer is drying. I mean, the product also has shea butter, which is super hydrating and can help balance out the witch hazel. Chemistry is a crazy thing, my people, and the thing with ingredients list is that you never really know until you try it.
So, I tried it..
Like I said, I was initially nervous to try this product, as I was afraid that the peppermint would irritate my sensitive, fair skin. But I had to, so I did... and it didn't irritate it at all! In fact, the peppermint felt nice and refreshing on my skin. Also, the airless pump releases the perfect amount of moisturizer in one pump. Because of the peppermint, the product smells wonderful.
And, how does it feel? Pretty good, actually. This product absorbs very quickly, so it doesn't feel heavy on the skin at all... nor is the texture very heavy. Yet, it left my skin feeling nicely hydrated and smooth.
Overall....
I actually quite enjoy this product. Though I am still a bit leery of the so-so ingredients list, I did like the way it felt on my skin. Now, do I think this product will make me look 17 again? Not likely, but its also not very likely that any product will... not even botox.
Also, I must say that they really should re-do their packaging. I hate to say that I judge a book by its cover, because it's just awful, but I am only human, unfortunately, and this product label screams boring. I suggest they add some color and, well... "oomph?"

A Retinol Alternative That Works Just as Good as Retinol!? A Review of Asteria's Anti-Aging Serum
Retinol is amazing, amazing, amazing. It's great for evening up skin tone, firming, filling in lines, and preventing acne. Unfortunately, a lot of people experience some negative side effects that go along with this sometimes irritating ingredient. Side effects include redness and flakiness that usually go away over time.. however, I know of more than a few people who say that the side effects were too much and had to stop using retinol altogether.
That's where fun alternatives come in, which can be hard to do, since there hasn't been an ingredient on the market that exceeds retinol's overall awesomeness since, like, it came out.. in the 50's. Yumi Beautiful sent me a bottle of their own anti-aging serum, called asteria serum.
Asteria, what is that?
I know, right? Asterina means starfish (according to my expert google skills), so I'm assuming "asteria" is a cute name they decided to name the product.. considering it does have starfish extract in it and it's their key ingredient, for all of you ocean mammal loving folk out there. Starfish themselves are known for their ability to regenerate, so it makes sense that one of the claims that the ingredient does is help with cell regeneration (as well as firming up the skin).
Here's the full ingredients list of the serum:
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycerin, Malachite Extract, Polysorbate 20, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Polyacrylate, Starfish Coelomic Fluid Extract, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans, Beta-Glucan, Cellulose, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol, Disodium EDTA, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance. I find this ingredients list.. intriguing. Aloe, being the first ingredient, excites me. As I have drilled into your poor little minds over and over, aloe is soothing and healing. It's great for scars and healing acne. Glycerin pulls moisture into the skin, the classic little ingredient that it is. And, malachite extract? What is that!? Well, apparently it comes from a friggin stone and is known to have awesome detoxifying properties and is also a strong antioxidant. Super cool. Then, you see our starfish fluid extract, so there's our magical little ingredient.
However... do you see that product in the last line? Actually, it's the second from the last ingredient in the entire list.. FRAGRANCE. Added goddamn fragrance. Oh, and it all looked so good. Adding synthetic fragrance to skincare products does nothing good for your skin. In fact, it's likely that it will irritate the skin... so, while the aloe and starfish and malachite may be good for the skin, the fragrance is no good.
Now, let's get down to the nitty gritty here...
The serum, and it is indeed a serum consistency, comes in a clear, airless pump. The bottle is pretty, with a colorful label and the product inside looks appealing. They say to apply the serum under moisturizer, after cleansing and toning the skin. They don't specify whether the skin should be dry or not, so, since most products (aside from hyaluronic acids) want the skin dry upon application, that's what I did. The serum does have a light fragrance, as I discussed in our "ingredients" section above. After the product dries on my skin, my skin does feel a bit tight. This could either be because of the serum itself, on my skin, or it could be because my skin is literally tighter. Unfortunately, I'd go for the prior- because, after looking in the mirror, my skin didn't look all that much tighter.
After using this product for a few weeks, I have to say that my skin did look brighter, but I can't say that it looked much younger. Though this product never irritated my skin or bothered it in the least, like retinol can.
The final conclusion:
Overall... I think this is a nice substitute for those who can't tolerate retinol. It's very gentle, however, it does have some added fragrance, which does add potential for irritation. Also, my personal beliefs are that its just plain mean to use these poor ocean animals for our own vanity. There are hundreds upon thousands of anti-aging ingredients out there. Why do we have to sacrifice poor animals for another one?

Svelte Pro's Sweetsation Organic Anti-Cellulite Treatment: A Review
Recently, I posted a review about a certain kind of cellulite cream. In this review, I posted alllll about cellulite- what it is, what it does, what works, what doesn't. I didn't have the best of luck with the cellulite treatment I reviewed in that post, although the ingredients did seem somewhat promising.
Svelte Pro sent me a bottle of their own organic anti-cellulite treatment and, unfortunately, I can't say I like this one any more. In fact, I dislike this one more, because it has this awful, citrusy-ish smell that reminds me of, well, cleaner??? I hate when water is the first ingredient, because it always makes me wonder whether the product is super watered down. It's quite the long list of ingredients, but they don't seem to be all fillers, either, I'll give them that. For example, one of the ingredients the company likes to boast about in this product is caffeine,
All in all, the ingredients may be unique and fluffy-sounding and intriguing, to say the least, but after using this product for a week and counting, the only difference I noticed was that my legs were.. smoother. More hydrated. You know. A total bummer, because I am reallyyyyyy hoping that a topical treatment out there really does exist to treat cellulite effectively.
Plus, that smell. Ugh. I can't.

Svelte Pro sent me a bottle of their own organic anti-cellulite treatment and, unfortunately, I can't say I like this one any more. In fact, I dislike this one more, because it has this awful, citrusy-ish smell that reminds me of, well, cleaner??? It definitely doesn't remind me of anything "organic," as the company claims that it has in their product.
