While there's awesome key ingredients and trends for skin.. like vitamin c, hyaluronic acid, retinol, etc., etc., there's obviously gotta be some key ingredients for hair too.. right? Duh.

So, let's talk about argan oil. At this point in time, who could possibly not know about argan oil? It's been a hit for a buncha years now as a miracle hair treatment. Lately, it's been getting more attention for it's benefits for the skin as well.... but for right now, we're going to concentrate on the benefits of argan oil as a hair treatment.

Argan oil comes from the nuts of argan trees in Morocco (a place I'd really like to go, by the way), which means it automatically gains points for being exotic.  In addition, the nuts (therefore, the oil) only grows on the tree once its 30-50 years old, thus making this oil even more exotic and cool.
But, thanks to my awesome google skills, I just discovered something  (careful, careful... a huge rant is about to being..) not so great about the genus Argania, which argan oil clearly comes from- it's endangered and has been placed under protection from UNESCO.

NO!!!! Why, oh why, must such a lovely ingredient become endangered? Well, frankly guys, because we're jerks. We abuse and devour the shit out of things that could possible have a $ symbol with it. It's fucked up! Some, probably beautiful Moroccan entrepreneurs, or beauty enthusiasts, or tourists, whoever discovered that this argan oil stuff is pretty amazing.. for cooking, for skin, for hair, whatever... and took advantage of the fact... such a pity. After learning this, I'm not sure I'll be able to continue purchasing argan oil in the future... END RANT.

ANYWAY ANYWAY ANYWAY... benefits of argan oil.. back to THAT.

It's lovely! It's wonderful for hydrating the scalp, for moisturizing the ends of hair, and for gliding over your hair to prevent flyaways. I like to use it for additional thermal protections before flat ironing my hair. It also adds some nice shine to your hair (and we all know how jealous we get of the pretty girls with the long, flowing, SHINY hair).

HSI Professional was nice enough to send me a delightful bottle of their own professional argan oil, and it definitely shows why those Moroccan entrepreneurs / beauty enthusiasts / whatever, went crazy over this stuff. I use about a dime sized amount for my mop of coarse, frizzy, damaged hair (conclusion: you will, mostly likely, NOT need to use this much!)  It feels heavy in my hands, but doesn't feel like it weighs down my hair. And it definitely does its job! I especially notice the awesome shine that my hair has after applying this product.

I definitely recommend this product!... sort of. I meannnn, I'm definitely an environmentally friendly chick.. but it's not like we're talking about buying an entire bottle of pure argan oil. THAT, I may not be so fond about.
